Keep the patient upright in case of vomiting and contact Washington Poison Center.
If on skin
Symptoms:
Contact dermatitis that is usually local to the site of contact. May range from itching, pain, redness and swelling to blister formation.
What to do:
Wash the affected area with soap and water as soon as possible. Wear gloves if possible to avoid contaminating hands and under fingernails. Wash affected clothes. Contact the poison center for recommendations if the rash occurs.
If inhaled
Burning poison ivy, oak, and related plants can cause throat irritation, bronchospasm, rash, itching, and coughing.
What to do:
If the person is able to interact, contact Washington Poison Center for advice.
If the person cannot stop coughing or is unable to respond, also contact 911.
