Your impact in action

Never Alone

After her 3-year-old daughter accidentally ingested a prescription medication, Grace called our free 24/7 Poison Helpline. David, a pharmacist and poison specialist, quickly assessed the situation and determined that a trip to the children’s hospital was the safest next step.

David gave Grace clear instructions and called ahead to the hospital to coordinate care. When Grace and her daughter arrived, hospital staff immediately guided them through the crowded ER to an exam room and followed the poison center’s treatment guidance.

“It was without a doubt the scariest 35 minutes of my life,” Grace said, “but his voice on the other end of the phone never wavered.”

That single call to Washington Poison Center helped save her daughter’s life.

Mary Selecky Public Health Memorial Scholarship

Support our next generation of public health leaders

Our Mary Selecky Public Health Memorial Scholarship honors Mary Selecky (1947-2025), a transformative public health leader whose four-decade career and dedicated service on our Board of Directors touched countless lives.

Mary devoted 20 years to leading the Northeast Tri County Health District in Colville, Washington and served 14 years as our state’s Secretary of Health, where she pioneered efforts in tobacco prevention, childhood immunization, emergency preparedness, and community-based public health. Mary also taught future public health professionals as a professor at the University of Washington School of Public Health.

Scholarship funds support Master of Public Health students who work with our Public Health Education team conducting research, designing programs, and developing health communications. Honor Mary’s impact by donating to the scholarship fund and helping cultivate the next generation of public health leaders.
