With small or accidental exposure the patient can have nausea, vomiting, upset stomach, mouth tingling. Large ingestions can cause increased muscle tone, hyperactivity, fever, and seizures.
What to do
If the patient had only a small ingestion and is not having symptoms, give the patient a small snack and cup of water, then call the poison center (1-800-222-1222) for further advice. If any shaking or confusion develops, call 911.
Splashed in eye(s)
Symptoms
Risk for redness, irritation, and ocular injury
What to do
Rinse the eye for 5 minutes with water, then rest the eye for 1 hour with no additional rinsing or medicated eye drops. Call the poison center for evaluation after rest is finished.
Inhaled
Symptoms
Patients can develop mouth/throat/lung irritation with exposure. Respiratory irritation can cause wheezing or shortness of breath
What to do
Get the patient to fresh air away from the product. If any wheezing or difficulty breathing develops, call 911.
Splashed on skin
Symptoms
Can see redness and irritation with skin contact.
What to do
Rinse skin for 5-10 minutes with water. If any blisters/broken skin develop, the patient will need medical evaluation.
