Every third full week in March we recognize National Poison Prevention Week and the Washington Poison Center celebrates it as Mr. Yuk Week.

Although the next “official” week is March 16-22, 2008 we encourage you to include poison prevention messages throughout the year.

You are in a unique position to increase awareness of an often overlooked injury – poisoning. Ideally, no one should have to suffer the worry or costs associated with unintentional poisonings.

Useful all year long are the following links (feel free to tweak to fit your needs):

  • Articles for any print or online newsletter Word PDF
  • Key Messages for publications or presentations to groups Word PDF
  • Fact Sheet of national and state poison data and calls received by the Washington Poison Center HTML Word PDF
  • Proclamation of Poison Prevention Week for local government Word PDF
  • Got a website? Add a link to the Poison Center with a website blurb Word
  • Poison safety materials

Exciting News: The 2008 Poison Prevention Week poster was designed by Maliyah Bennett (4th Grade) from Dunlap Elementary School, Seattle. Her poster will be displayed on billboards throughout the state.

If you have any questions about Poison Prevention Week or the Washington Poison Center, feel free to contact the education department anytime at 1-800-572-4104 x2388 or 206-517-2388 (Seattle area) or use our contact form (select "speaker for my group" option).
