2013 Poison Prevention Poster Contest

One of my friends at the Poison Center wanted to know why I was scowling more than usual; he thought I had a bad attitude. Dude, I don’t have attitude!   I’m just …  sad.

:-x

It is the end of October and there are very few entries in my poster contest.

Every year the nation recognizes the 3rd week in March as “National Poison Prevention Week.”  This year is no different. Poisonings are the leading cause of accidental death in Washington.  Did you get that?  The number one cause!  More deaths last year from poisonings than from car crashes and falls.  Children, teens, adults, seniors and pets are all at risk.  Everyone needs me!

The Washington Poison Center is looking for a poster that will let people know how they can be safe from poisoning with my help.  If we don’t get any entries, how can we choose a winner?   How can we promote Poison Prevention Week on mini posters throughout the state?  Now do you see why I’m sad and scowling more than usual?

The theme of the 2013 Washington State Poison Prevention Week campaign is “Be Safe with Mr. Yuk.”    Me!   I get to help everyone be safe, but I can’t do it alone.  I need help.

One lucky child will be chosen as the Mr. Yuk Poster Contest winner, and the winning design will be used as our State’s official Poison Prevention Week poster.  See the most recent winning poster below, and check out some of the other winners!

Please read the rules and send your drawing in with the entry form before January 4th!

Send your posters to:

Washington Poison Center
155 NE 100th Street, #100
Seattle, WA 98125

Posters will be judged based on their overall poison prevention message, originality, neatness, artwork, spelling, and incorporation of me, Mr. Yuk, into the design.   I have to be there if you want people to “Be Safe with Mr. Yuk”!

All entries will receive a gift from me.  Yep, I’ll send you something because I want to thank you for your help.

The winner receives $500 and four runners-up receive $100 each from our sponsor, Umpqua Bank!  They are really nice people who like to help me spread the poison prevention word.

I’m sure my attitude will improve if your kids and students will enter the poster contest.  I won’t stop scowling as long as people are being poisoned, but if you help me out here- at least I won’t be scowling at you!
